Make Music Day Offer

So earlier this year I was contacted by the city of Denton, specifically the Economic Development Program Administrator, regarding the city's first ever participation in the international Make Music Day. When I read this invitation my first thought was: "Make Music Day. That sounds kind of like an accurate but not quite colloquial translation of a phrase from another language. Kind of like the copier at an office I used to work at that would display the sentence Please Wait For A While as it booted up."

Turns out I was right. It is a festival that originates in France (Fȇte de la Musique). From the official website:

In 1982, France’s Ministry of Culture dreamed up an idea for a new kind of musical holiday. They imagined a day where free, live music would be everywhere: street corners and parks, rooftops and gardens, store fronts and mountaintops. And, unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music, or host performances. The event would take place on the summer solstice, June 21, and would be called Fête De La Musique. (In French, the name means both “festival of music” and “make music!”) Amazingly enough, this dream has come true. The Fête has turned into a true national holiday: France shuts down on the summer solstice and musicians take over. Almost 8% of the country (5 million people) have played an instrument or sung in public for the Fête de la Musique. Three decades later, the holiday has spread throughout the world and is now celebrated in more than 120 countries. In the U.S., the presenting sponsor is the NAMM Foundation.

I thought, cool, this is a great thing for Denton to do, especially given our reputation for live music.

So, in honor of Make Music Day, I will offer to record one song for a Denton band that day, June 21st, at HALF PRICE. That's right, 50% off. You can save yourself some serious dough, all because of the summer solstice.

The fine print:

  1. This is good to any band based in Denton, but you have to come in on June 21st.

  2. Includes all tracking, mixing and mastering for one song.

  3. You can't reschedule an existing session for this day. I mean, I gotta eat.

  4. Also, while half price the total studio time cannot exceed 8 hours.

  5. First come first served, hit me up!
